Awe-stricken residents of Ogbagi-Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State yesterday woke up to find a 70-year-old woman, late Madam Sidikat Jimoh, murdered in cold blood.
The Guardian gathered that the deceased was killed by unknown ritualists, who invaded her residence at Ayetoro Street before dawn.
According to sources in the community, the late Jimoh was found lifeless in her own blood in the morning, with many parts of the septuagenarian’s body removed by the assailants.
Residents lamented that such an ugly incident had never been recorded in the community, revealing that the ritualists made attempts to set the body of the deceased on fire.
According to sources, the bandits must have suspected that someone was on their trail as they hurriedly left the scene, abandoning some of the dismembered parts of the deceased littered at the scene.
Some neighbours of the victim described her as a faithful and devoted Muslim, who regularly attended the weekly Asalatu prayers with enthusiasm and was still at Ansar-ud-deen (AUD) Society of Nigeria Central Mosque on Sunday not knowing that she would be killed by undesirable elements later in the night.
They acknowledged her enthusiasm for worship and love for mankind while decrying the dastardly act by the ritual killers, who snuffed life out of her and killed her in the most bestial manner.
Attempts to speak with the paramount ruler and Owa of Ogbagi, Oba Ade Olasehinde, were not successful but the Police Area Commander in Ikare, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Razak Rauf, confirmed the incident.
Rauf, alongside the Divisional Police Officer of Ogbagi-Akoko, CSP Kunle Fabuluje, noted that investigation had begun on the matter while the body had been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare mortuary.
Meanwhile, a housewife, whose name is yet to be known, was yesterday apprehended by men of the Osun State police command for possessing human parts. The woman was said to have been caught with human hands in Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Folashade Odoro, confirmed the arrest. Odoro said the suspect concealed the hands in a bag and that she was arrested following intelligence report.
She said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Johnson Kokumo, has ordered police detectives to ensure proper investigation into the matter. Kokumo said the woman committed a criminal offence for being in possession of the human part and that she would face the law.
