The return of the Bundesliga has suffered another setback after the German Government pushed its restart back to May 22 at the earliest.
There were hopes that the German top-flight would return to action on the weekend of May 15, despite the coronavirus crisis wreaking havoc on football schedules all over the globe.
But it is understood that Germany’s chancellor, Angela Merkel, has now insisted that there must be a two-week quarantine for all of the teams before action can resume.
Therefore, the earliest action can return is May 22, while it is also understood that the Bundesliga’s restart could be pushed back another week.
It is, however, positive news for German football fans as the Government has seemingly given the green light for the league to resume.
