The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Thursday donated hand sanitisers, face masks, sprayers and handwashing soaps to Ekiti Government to support its fight against coronavirus pandemic.
The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete, while delivering the items, said the gesture was part of the efforts of the NYSC to contribute its own quota to the fight against coronavirus pandemic.
The items were delivered to the State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA) in Ado Ekiti.
“Today we are donating 450 sprayers in different sizes, 500 hand sanitizers, 300 face masks and 416 handwashing soaps to Ekiti Government in support of its fight against coronavirus pandemic.
“These items were produced within three days by our corps members through the state NYSC scheme Entrepreneurial Acquisition Centre,” Okpongete said.
She reiterated the commitment of the NYSC scheme in supporting whatever would help in containing the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria and Ekiti.
The Chairman of Ekiti COVID-19 Committee, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, who received the items on behalf of the state government thanked the NYSC scheme for the gesture.
Aluko said the items donated would go a long way to assist in the fight against coronavirus pandemic in the state.
“The sanitisers and soaps are very important to ensure hands and places are clean.
“They will be useful to our health workers, market women and others. This effort of NYSC scheme and corps members is commendable,”
He, however, gave an assurance that the items donated would be used for the purpose they meant for, saying that one of the transformation agenda of the present government in Ekiti was to prioritise the welfare of the people.
Also, the Ekiti Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Michael Awopetu, noted that the NYSC had always been significant to the development of the nation.
Awopetu said that the donation by NYSC showed that it was concerned with Ekiti Government’s efforts to fight COVID-19 pandemic.
