Edo Deputy Governor, Mr Philip Shaibu, has reacted to reports making the rounds that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
Shuaibu in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ebomhiana Musa, on Monday in Benin said he has gone for COVID-19 test three times and has tested negative.
He described reports as part of plans to stigmatize him.
He disclosed that there was no reason to hide his health status if he had tested positive.
The statement read in part:
“Some mischief-makers have been making some desperate posts to stigmatise the deputy governor Philip Shaibu with the deadly coronavirus.
“Shaibu had voluntarily gone for COVID-19 test thrice and came out clean on three different occasions.
“His latest test was done on May 7, where he was given a clean bill.
“His Excellency is not just the Deputy Governor of the state, he is head of the Technical Committee of COVID-19 Response Team in the state. By virtue of this position in the state response team, he is at the front line, hence, the need to constantly subject himself to test.”
He advised Nigerians to disregard the fake news, adding that Shaibu had been cleared by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).
