The Bayelsa State Government on Sunday intercepted two buses conveying 17 teenagers suspected to be Almajiris into the state.

The Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Information and Orientation, Freston Akpor, said the two vehicles were intercepted at the Glory Land entry point into Yenagoa, the state capital.

He said the state’s COVID-19 task force officials led by Agberebi Akpoebi with some security operatives enforcing the “no entry order” of the state government at the toll gate, stopped the buses from entering the state.

Akpor, who is also a member of the task force, said the buses were ordered to return the occupants to wherever they had brought them from.

He said the task force escorted them to Patani, the border between Delta and Bayelsa states.

“While some of the Almajiris claimed they were on their way to the state on a commercial fishing expedition, others claimed to be on their way to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, through Bayelsa waters,” he said.
