The much anticipated and first ever album by the YBNL mafia family have been released. This album was released to mark the love and success of the new acts such as Picazo and Yomi Blaze, that were signed to the YBNL family.

Devolee was suppose to be on the album, but due to an in-depth edit, his name was removed form the final product of the album. The YBNL mafia album featured other known acts such as Kizz Daniel, Kranium, LK-Kuddy and Ex-YBNL star, Lil Kesh. It also had A-listed producers such as Killertunes, 2Kris and Cracker Mallo.

Although, the YBNL mafia album was much anticipated by many music lovers, especially the YBNL fans such as myself, the album did way below expectations and we would tell you why.

1. Timing

The YBNL mafia album did not do as much as expected and we believe timing must have been one of the factors that contributed largely to the ‘down expectation’.

Initial date of release was supposed to be 7th December, 2018. This was the original date of release and a lot of music lovers were impatiently waiting for that day to come, so they could have a feel of th YBNL family joint.

But hearts were broken when the YBNL boss, Olamide, came out to announce a new date of release, 14th December, 2018 to be specific. This made music lovers not to take the album that serious anymore.

Though, Olamide said the reason for the sudden postponement of the album release was due to the fact that he wanted to ‘give rich and quality sound’, he also blamed sound producer, Zeeno Foster for such delay.

2. The Album Contained Too Much Indigenous Rappers

We know YBNL is known for its indigenous touch when it comes to sounds. With the recent signings of young acts such as Picazo and Ika (Yomi Blaze), Olamide taught it would be nice to feature such young acts and give them the platform to show case what they have.

What Olamide didn’t know was that people were already getting tired of the ‘local vibes’ and needed something different. Picazo was on ‘Fire Down, Le Le Yi, Macaroni’, while Yomi Blaze was on Ika. People were just tired of the indigenousness and wanted a new line of sound which the YBNL failed to provide here, Olamide tried to neutralize this by introducing Fire Boy and Limerick, but did that truly work?

3. Unable To Include Popular Rappers

The YBNL mafia album came out fine and people vibe to it for a while, but we believed the album would have done much better if popular rappers where on it. Just imagine if acts like M.I Abaga, Vector, Jesse Jagz and a host of other A-listed rappers were on the album.

Even Phyno that is one of Olamide’s best friend and music companion wasn’t on any of the tracks. We believed if Olamide had featured one of the listed artistes above, the album would have garnered more grounds and gone farther.

4. Low Budget Publicity

Olamide is known for his intense publicity especially when it comes to moment he or any member of his team was about dropping a new song.

He did this last year when he was about to release the ‘Lagos Nawa‘ album which had hits like ‘Wo‘, ‘The One‘ and others. But Olamide didn’t seem to get it right this year on the publicity of the YBNL mafia album.

Putting into consideration that Mr Eazi and Kizz Daniel had released their own albums. All attention were still on Mr Eazi and Kizz Daniel, not to forget that the day YBNL released their album, that was the same day the Internet was talking about Linda Ikeji and her baby daddy saga, so, all attention were diverted from the Mafia album.

Olamide would have done an aggressive PR awareness for the Mafia album to shift music lovers attention to the forthcoming YBNL mafia album. I mean, a mafia isn’t suppose to be gentle in any ways but aggressive, right?

5. No Different Sounds.

The Mafia album was suppose to have a different sound, especially with the new signings Olamide had just done. People expected something new, they wanted a different sound they could vibe to, something that will last for long and not the usual ‘Shakiti Bobo’ feel.

I can say artistes like, Limerick and Fire Boy were the only ones that had a different sound and they delivered well.

Like I am initially stated, the YBNL mafia family album is a good way to introduce the new artistes and while it doesn’t offer enough to draw conclusions on their abilities, it gives you a glimpse of what the YBNL team will be feeling the industry with in the coming years.
